Qualifying Life Events

Special Enrollment Periods (SEP)
If an employee did not elect coverage at time of hire, or at the annual open enrollment period but now has a life changing event and needs coverage they may be able to come onto the plan. Late Enrollees are no longer allowed. Applications for SEPs MUST be received within 60 days of the qualifying event.

Common SEPs are listed below:

  • Birth of a baby

  • Marriage

  • Divorce

  • Adoption of child

INVOLUNTARY loss of other coverage (spouse loses job or benefits are cancelled, employee has turned 26 and has lost coverage under parents plan, etc. Termination due to lack of premium payment does not qualify as an involuntary loss of coverage).
